What is Happening:
Monday: We went over the syllabus in class today; please have your student show it to you. It should be in the English section of their accordian file. Students were also given their first Writing Warm-Up packet, where we completed the first lesson together in class. This packet stays in their binders in the classroom until we finish the 9th lesson of the packet. Then the students will bring home the packet to study for the quiz. Students were informed today, that I will hold an after-school study session each time we take a quiz or test on the day before. The study sessions run from 3:30 to 4:00. Students will know days in advance before there is a test or quiz, so that they can make plans if they want to stay the day before for the study session.

Tuesday:Today in class, the students were introduced to half of the Truman Nominee books that they will use in the Independent Reading Structure. They will be introduced to the rest of the books tomorrow, and then they will begin the structure.

Wednesday: Today in class, the students chose their books for the Independent Reading Structure, and they learned how to ask an informed guiding question before reading. Tomorrow they will learn how to complete the rest of a reading log entry and go to the library for book check out. Our new unit over story elements and plot will begin tomorrow, and all students will be expected to have their pocket folder with brads in class.
