The Plan:

The students will be bringing home the graded Writing Warm-Up Quiz on Monday. They should obtain a parent signature, and turn this quiz back in by this Wednesday. They will be getting their new Writing Warm-Up packet in class on Monday for the next nine practice lessons. The grammar focus for this packet is nouns again and possessive nouns, and then focus on subject-verb agreements in sentences.

Students will be learning about the stages of plot, and they will be analyzing the plot of some short stories in class this week. They should be studying the notes they have been taking over this unit for the test coming up next Tuesday, Sept. 17.I will hold an after-school study session for that test on Monday, Sept. 16.

What is Happening:
Monday: Today in class the students were given back their graded Writing Warm-Up quiz. They did a great job for it being the first quiz; the team average score was 75%. They also continued to take notes over the stages of plot. As homework, the students are to obtain a parent signature on their graded quiz and return it by Wednesday.

Tuesday: Today in class, the students began analyzing the plot to the story "The School Play." They were also given instructions for how to complete the Independent Reading Book Report Form. The first quarter Book Report Form is due no later than October 4. That is the day the students will be given their first quarter Independent Reading Project over that particular book.

Wednesday: Wednesday workday.

Thursday: Today in class, the students learned the "visualize" strategy for Independent Reading, and they reviewed the plot diagram for "The School Play."

Friday: Students began creating their plot diagram posters analyzing the plot for the story "The School Play."  They also did an exercise where they assessed their knowledge of the terms they are to know for next Tuesday's test.  They said it was very helpful in figuring out what they still need to study for the test.
